t is for tennis shoes

oh. my. god. this is lame. LAME! it's not even ten p.m. i could sleep right here, sitting on the couch with my new tennis shoes on my feet (have to break'm in...maybe. my toes aren't crazy about how the insides of the top of the end of the shoes feel...did you follow that?) and my mac on my lap and my eyeglasses on my face. right here, i tell you. right here with all the lights burning. upright.

i am so tuckered. SO tuckered.

but you don't want to hear how tired i am, do you?

mom and i went shopping for new attire today for me for my trip to europe and new attire for her just because. one of the things i wanted were some new tennis shoes. i was thinking of getting a new pair of under armour's, but they're not pretty shoes, generally. i shouldn't have taken the ones i bought last summer to wales. why didn't i think that walking through a country field in my favorite tennies would be a bad idea? obviously i wasn't thinking. i left them in the trash can in the cardiff marriott hotel. you can't walk in fields covered in sheep shit and expect to keep your shoes in respectable shape after that. i was very sad to see them go, though. because while most of under armour's shoes are ugly, these weren't half bad.

excuse me for a second...jenny! jenny matlock!!! get that blasted john mayer off your playlist!!! thank god for the mamas and the papas, c.c.r., louis armstrong, greg laswell and the weepies.

sorry. tennis shoes...

so mom and i were shopping. and i was thinking it couldn't be that hard to find a comfortable pair of tennis shoes that don't look hideous with my clothes.

uh. yeah. it can. cause the ones i've got on my feet right now -- i don't think they're gonna work. i'm not even walking in them (and they're built for walking, by the way, as new balance designated them as walking shoes on the label), and my feet are already acting like they'd be happy if i'd toss these in the garbage, too. so they will be going back to the store tomorrow. and anyway, even if they were comfortable...they're light brown suede. i'd thought they'd look better with my capris, which are also brown, but i feel like old hag in them. never a good thing.

so maybe i should get the u.a. shoes designed by a man for a woman's foot and suck up the bad style and embrace the comfort.

i leave you with something lovely and light (sort of)...

today's tune is brought to you by, yes, the weepies. wanna hear it? get to the bottom picky.

can't go back now
yesterday when you were young
everything you needed done

was done for you
now you do it on your own
but you find you're all alone
what can you do
you and me
walk on
cause you can't go back now

you know there will be days
when you're so tired that you can't
take another step
the night will have no stars
and you'll think you've
gone as far as you'll ever get
go where you want to go
be what you want to be
if you ever turn around
you'll see me
i can't really say why everybody
wishes they were somewhere else
but in the end the only steps that matter
are the ones you take all by yourself

this was a matlock project. learn about that here.

I'd go with comfort if you will be walking a lot over there. New Balance shoes are usually uncomfortable until broken in. I learned this many moons ago when I used to use them for running and they left my feet aching and bleeding.

Enjoy your trip! I also enjoy the music taste you listed.

Tennis or runners. There are not that comfortable. I find you have to try so many before you find something decent. When they are made too flat near where the toes are they never become wearable because that part never stretches. I hope yours eventually behave. Bon voyage!

Surprisingly Converse, with all of it's non support, are my most favorites and comfortable. Of course I only wear them 8 hrs. at a time. But if I have to have a shoe with support, I wear my Pumas. They aren't that attractive but I kind of forget I have them on anyway after awhile, so no matter.
Great song choice, love the lyrics.

I hate it when a comfortable pair of shoes hit that point where you just can't get away with wearing them any more; not even once! They are, unarguably, only fit for the bin.

I hope you find yourself a pair you are happy with.

Life is too short to wear uncomfortable shoes! I hope you find the perfect pair.

the coolest looking shoes are ALWAYS the ones that provide NO support or comfort...you just can't win.

Sometimes when people feel so tired , almost like a drunk person the words just come out a lot better , without inhibitions . That's how I am anyway :) . I also get giddy . Anyway....you did a great job .

I'm needing a pic to visualize these horrific shoes. . . .
And I grew up raising sheep. I agree. Nothing smellier.
But cheer up--hello? EUROPE! Who cares what your shoes look like? Just avoid any pics from the knees down, and who will ever know?
BTW--glad I found you. Your blog is always something interesting and different for me!

I HATE buying shoes. I can never find a pair that fit right. I used to have a lot smaller shoe size, the older I get the wider my feet are getting Ugh!! I hate shoe shopping.

HELLO! I agree with you John Mayer is terrorrible (terrible+horrible). I just discovered the Weepies about a month ago when I was in a paper-induced-brain-lock and needed some musical therapy. I love them.

You know, "You can't walk in fields covered in sheep shit and expect to keep your shoes in respectable shape" should be on a sampler or a wood sign with vinyl lettering. I love it!

I love cross trainers for trips.

I have short feet that swell by the end of the day. I seem to almost never find shoes that will make it through the day with me. Shoe shopping is almost as bad as bathing suit shopping. Cute post.

i'd go for function over form...but you can find comfy walking shoes that aren't tennis shoes...and are most time cute to boot!

I have a pretty comfortable pair right now, but I'm a tough fit.

I hate shoe shopping too. Sometimes you just have to sacrifice style for comfort, but that doesn't make it stink any less! But geez, a trip to Europe should make it all worthwhile:)

Man, at first I thought you were saying that The Weepies were lame.

(Audible sigh of relief and hand on chest).

Shoes? So long as they don't have velcro on them...
